Carlo Ancelotti has denied reports that Napoli have agreed a deal for Arsenal target Gonzalo Higuain, and said that he would like the striker to stay at Real Madrid this summer.
Arsenal looked close to signing Higuain before Ancelotti took over at Real Madrid, but Napoli emerged as front runners for the player over the weekend, and there was speculation they had agreed a free for the Argentine.
However, speaking after Real Madrid’s friendly with Bournemouth, Ancelotti denied the reports.
"Not true, I don't have any news about this," he said.
"I think that now we have to speak about Higuain as a Real Madrid player. He is a fantastic player and a fantastic striker who took one minute to score tonight.
"I spoke to him this week. He is a Real Madrid player and until we have news we have to consider him as a Real Madrid player and I would like him to stay with us”.
Another reported Arsenal target, Luis Suarez, has joined up with Liverpool in Australia on their pre-season tour, and is set to play in a friendly on Wednesday, with Brendan Rodgers keen to keep the striker at Anfield this summer.
Arsenal have already had a bid rejected for Suarez, but are reportedly considering going back to Liverpool again, with the Uruguayan indicating he would like to leave Anfield.
Real Madrid are also apparently interested in the player, but Rodgers still believes Suarez will stay at Liverpool.
With Thomas Vermaelen also facing a spell on the side-lines, Arsenal could face a defensive crisis, having allowed Johan Djourou and Sebastien Squillaci to leave the club.
Williams has been linked with Arsenal throughout the summer, but Arsene Wenger had reportedly baulked at Swansea’s £10million asking price for the 28-year-old. But if Koscielny’s injury is at all serious, Arsenal could be left with just Per Mertesacker, which could speed up a move for Williams.
