Arsenal latest: Including Bernard and Zelalem

All the latest Arsenal news and gossip.

French newspaper L'Equipe revealed earlier today that Arsenal were close to sealing a deal for Brazilian starlet Bernard, with the winger even scheduled for a medical this Friday. As we wrote when the news broke, L'Equipe's sources were based in Brazil, quite possibly the same journalists who claimed a move could be a goer at the end of last week.

In true transfer window fashion, the reports were then denied, with the Mirror journalist John Cross claiming he had spoken to Arsene Wenger on tour about the rumours, and the Arsenal manager simply stated; "That report is not true."

Its interesting to note that Wenger did not deny interest in the player, simply stating that any potential deal is not as advanced as L'Equipe claim it to be.

Arsenal visited Japan earlier today and took on Arsene Wenger's old side, Nagoya Grampus Eight. A start was handed to Japanese national Ryo Miyaichi, who received the most applause of any Arsenal player. Miyaichi also got on the scoresheet in the 3-1 win, converting a first half penalty.

Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott scored the other goals either side, with Walcott's coming courtesy of a superb reverse pass from 16-year-old whizkid Gedion Zelalem.

Teenager Zelalem came off the bench once again, impressing for the third game in a row and was trending on  Twitter as a result of his stirring performance.

Bacary Sagna once again started in central defence alongside Per Mertesacker, preferred to Ignasi Miquel in light of an ankle knock picked up by Laurent Koscielny in training 24 hours. On HITC, we have taken a look at how the Frenchman's injury has led to increased speculation about a bid for Ashley Williams.

Transfer rumours regarding Luis Suarez and Gonzalo Higuain persist, but there have been no new developments, and rumours of Napoli agreeing a fee for Higuain are said to be premature after Carlo Ancelotti denied such a deal last night.

Elsewhere on HITC, we have taken a look at another right-back, Hector Bellerin. The Spaniard has been in action for his country's under-19 side at the European Championships, but after helping his side to an opening 1-0 win over Portugal, ended up getting sent off for a late challenge in stoppage time.
