Manchester United have made a second bid to sign Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas. United made an initial £25 million offer for the midfielder last week, but have now been forced into a larger bid as they look to secure the signing of the former Arsenal man before the start of the season.
American Phil Mickelson says he produced the best round of golf in his career to secure the Open title. Mickelson shot a final round of 66 to secure another major title; “This is such an accomplishment because I never knew if I'd be able to develop my game to play links golf.”
Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a deal for winger Nacer Chadli. Chadli signs a five-year deal after Spurs and FC Twente agreed a £7 million deal. He becomes Andre Villas-Boas’ second major signing of the summer after Spurs completed a £17 million deal for Paulinho.
Chris Froome says winning the 100th edition of the Tour de France brought a tear to his eye. Froome finished runner up to Sir Bradley Wiggins in the event last year, but went one better this time round; “Crossing the line with [the] guys brought tears to my eyes. I expected it to be big but this is something else.”
England captain Alastair Cook says it’s too early to be thinking about the possibility of beating Australia 5-0 in the current Ashes series. England wrapped up a big win at Lords yesterday to move 2-0 up and one step closer to retaining the urn heading into the Australian series in November.
