3. 1963 - The Beatles' first U.S. album, Introducing The Beatles, is released

4. 1969 - Aretha Franklin is arrested for disorderly conduct after creating a disturbance in a Detroit parking lot

5. 1990 - Greg LeMond wins his third Tour de France. A Minnesota native, Lemond was the first American to win the great French cycling race

6. 1992 - American actress and singer Selena Gomez is born 

7. 1994 - O.J. Simpson pleads innocent to murdering his ex-wife, Nicole, and her friend, Ronald Goldman

8. 2003 - Saddam Hussein's sons, Uday and Ousay, are killed in a firefight

9. 2005 - Innocent Jean Charles de Menzes is shot dead by police at Stockwell underground station in south London - a day after four bomb attacks on the capital

10. 2011 – Norway is the victim of twin terror attacks, the first being a bomb blast which targeted government buildings in central Oslo, the second, a massacre at a youth camp on the island of Utøya

11. 2012 - Bradley Wiggins wins the Tour de France, making him the first British man to win the famous bicycle race
