Chelsea fans have waited a long time to see Kevin de Bruyne in action after spending 18 months on loan since signing, and their chance to see him in pre-season was cruelly cut short this afternoon.
The Belgian scored a terrific goal in a 4-1 win against a Malaysia XI, but as he volleyed home he fell awkwardly on his ankle and had to be stretchered off.
With results of a scan due on his injuries on Monday, the 22-year-old, posted a Twitter update which would give Chelsea fans a bit of hope it is not too serious.
Knee and ankle feeling ok for the moment. Always stay positive. Waiting for tomorrow. Then we will know more. Thanks for all the messages!— Kevin De Bruyne (@DeBruyneKev) July 21, 2013
His positivity certainly bodes well, and gives an indication his fitness concerns are not overly serious.
It could be the last fans see of him on pre-season if he takes a little while to heal, but an aim of making a full return in time for the opening day of the season in under a month's time should be achievable based on his uplifting mood.
Do you think De Bruyne will be ok?
