Liverpool have been busy this summer. When not deflecting Luis Suarez transfer offers and rumours Brendan Rodgers brought in some excellent players such as Simon Mignolet, Iago Aspas and Luis Alberto.
But he is still after more as was evident in the eventually fruitless pursuit of Henrikh Mkhitaryan this month.
With that deal now canned it has been rumoured that the club renew their interest in Danish playmaker Christian Eriksen.
The mercurial attacker has had an excellent pre-season to boost the interest in his signature and has been told he can leave the club this summer if he finds the right destination.
He recently bagged a pair of free-kick goals and yesterday was at it again as Ajax put paid to Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen in a 3-2 victory.
He was involved in the build up for the Dutch outfits opening two goals put away by Daley Blind and new signing Bojan Krkic and he grabbed the third with a goal from 35-yards out.
But it was not as sensational a goal as it sounds.
He nipped in and headed the ball past the ridiculously advanced Bremen keeper before coolly rolling the ball into the back of the net from distance.
Yesterday there were conflicting reports on the players future with some claiming Liverpool were on the brink of signing him with others suggesting AC Milan had now taken the lead in the apparent £18 million pursuit of the player.
But judging by what has been his excellent form for the Dutch outfit throughout pre-season and his tender age of 21 it would be a brilliant signing for Liverpool if the stories reporting their deal carry more credence than the AC Milan chatter.
Here are highlights from the fixture…
