Real Madrid have always produced plenty of good young players over the years but this summer there has been plenty of talk about one of the best players to come off the production line at the Real Cantera in a little while.
Tottenham have recently been linked with the signature of talented Spanish youngster Jese Rodriguez. Jese had an excellent 2012-13 in the ranks of the Real Madrid ‘B’ team. Real Madrid Castilla finished eighth in the Segunda Liga and Jese was the star of the show; banging in 22 goals throughout the campaign.
He then went on to have some impressive displays for Spain in the World Under-20 Championships and that has seen many clubs linked with his signature; considering he barely gets a sniff of an opportunity at the club.
"I want to play, and I don't know if I'll get many minutes in the Real Madrid first team. I don't know what the club wants with me. I assume they will want to offer me a renewal but I don't know what I will do. I'm not going to lie about it. I am calm about my future. I've had a good season and I'm doing well at the World Cup now. I'm relaxed. Once the World Cup is over, we'll open talks to discuss my future."
Discuss his future they did and unfortunately for Spurs it seems that no transfer is on the horizon. In fact it is reported in Spain today that Jese will sign a new deal with Real this week.
The deal is expected to be a five-year agreement at a starting salary of €1 million-a-year; but the most staggering aspect of his new deal has to be the whopping great big release clause Madrid have slapped in there as a deterrent to Europe’s scavengers … a release clause of €200 million!
Now Jese is good, and very talented, but the 20-year-old is certainly not worth that incredible amount once again.
What it is then is two things; a ringing endorsement from Real Madrid about his talents and a ‘back-off’ to Tottenham and any other hyenas on the prowl.
