Arsenal transfer news: Santos exits while Bernard edges closer

Transfer news from The Emirates including Andre Santos, Bernard, Luis Suarez and Julio Cesar.

Andre Santos has finalised a move away from the club. The Brazilian international has long been touted with an exit this summer as he is behind Nacho Monreal and Kieran Gibbs in the pecking order at left-back.

After Gremio, who had him on loan for six months of last season, failed to make a sufficient offer to keep him this summer it seemed the misfit would be stuck at The Emirares. However Mano Menezes, who has worked with him previously, has thrown him a life-line with the offer to play for Flamengo. The Rio de Janeiro club claim to have signed him on a free transfer and he has signed a two-year-deal.

Reports last night claimed that Arsenal were on the verge of snapping up Brazilian international Bernard from Atletico Mineiro. The attacking midfielder has previously been linked with moves to Tottenham and Liverpool as well as FC Porto but according to yesterday’s reports The Gunners have won the race for the diminutive midfield maestro. Any deal is said to cost Arsenal a whopping £21 million.

Luis Suarez is ready to tell Liverpool he wants a move to Arsenal. The striker has been the subject of a failed bid already this summer and Arsenal are reportedly ready to up their bid to £40 million this summer. Real Madrid will reportedly not go that far in a deal for the 26-year-old so Suarez is prepared to force a move to Arsenal in order to play first-team football.

Finally, and the path to sign Julio Cesar from QPR is clear. Napoli are now said to be on the verge of completing a season long loan deal for Spanish keeper Pepe Reina of Liverpool. Reina has previously been linked with Arsenal after Liverpool signed Simon Mignolet but he has instead joined his former gaffer in Campania.
