Manchester City have been happy to back their new manager Manuel Pellegrini in the transfer market this summer, with four new players ready to push them into contention on all fronts next season.
Fernandinho, Jesus Navas and Alvaro Negredo have all been confirmed, with Stevan Jovetic set to finalise his move in the coming days.
What is key to the quartet is that they arrive as established players ready to make an immediate impact for Manchester City, and all four will expect to be first team regulars.
Fernandinho impressed for Shakhtar Donetsk during their fine Champions League run last season, and the Brazilian will likely join Yaya Toure in the middle of midfield. Keen to push himself into the Brazil side for next summer’s World Cup, Fernandinho should be an accomplished addition to the side.
Navas and Negredo both arrive with plenty of experience with Sevilla in La Liga and on the back of excellent seasons. Negredo might struggle to nail down a first team spot with Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko still currently on the books at City, and Jovetic also arriving to compete for the attacking spots in the side, but has a proven record of finding the net when he is on the pitch.
Navas is an intriguing signing, as unlike City’s other attacking midfielders the Spaniard is a far more traditional winger, preferring to stay wide and deliver crosses rather than cut inside.
This suggests City’s formation will be tweaked slightly under their new manager to incorporate the Spain international, and he will provide real width in a team that sometimes became predictable to play against last season.
Jovetic has the ability to be the pick of the bunch, with the 23-year-old enjoying his best season yet at Fiorentina last year. Able to play almost anywhere across the attack, Jovetic is as accomplished at creating chances as he is taking them, and he should link well with players like David Silva and Samir Nasri.
While Negredo, Fernandinho and Navas will all be important for City next year Jovetic is perhaps the most exciting new signing, with the Montenegrin perhaps on the brink of establishing himself as one of the best young forwards in Europe.
Manchester City fans, which of your new signings are you most excited to see in action next season?
