Chelsea latest: Including Mata linked with Arsenal

A select round-up of news and views relating to Chelsea over the past 24 hours.

Jose Mourinho has hailed Chelsea as a special club, and emphasised to have passion for your work in football.

“The most important thing for me is the deep feeling I'm at a really special football club. If Chelsea can become a really special club for me, Chelsea can be a special club for everybody,” he said.

After speculation suggesting Chelsea could offer Juan Mata to Manchester United as part of a deal for Wayne Rooney, Arsenal are apparently considering a bid for the Spanish midfielder, according to The Independent. Arsenal cam close to signing Mata before he moved to Chelsea in 2011, and Arsene Wenger is now monitoring the 25-year-old’s situation in case he becomes available this summer.

However Mourinho has insisted that both Mata and David Luiz are part of his plans for next season despite the rumours linking the pair with moves. Luiz and Mata are away on holiday following the Confederations Cup, and Mourinho has not spoken to them about the recent speculation.

Luiz has also been linked with a move today, with Barcelona reportedly ready to step up their interest in the Brazilian defender after missing out on his compatriot Thiago Silva, who has elected to stay at PSG.

Chelsea and Arsenal are set to battle it out for Croatian wonderkid Alen Halilovic, who was recently linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur. The 17-year-old has already played in the Champions League, and is viewed as one of the most exciting young prospects in Europe.

Chelsea goalkeeper Sam Walker has re-joined Colchester United on loan after a successful loan spell at the League One club last season. The 21-year-old will stay at Colchester until the 19th January.

Manchester United are reportedly unwilling to sell Wayne Rooney to Chelsea at any cost this summer. Mourinho has made Rooney his top priority in the transfer market this summer, but David Moyes is intent on keeping the England international for another season at least.

According to Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis, Chelsea are one of three clubs in the race for Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain. Arsenal and Napoli make up the trio chasing the Argentine, who is reportedly valued at around €40million.

On HITC today we ask if Chelsea would rather have Higuain or Rooney, and look at where Branislav Ivanovic should play next season.
