Liverpool transfer news: Benitez returns for Reina, £12m bid for defender

A round up of the latest transfer stories connected to Liverpool.

Former Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez is reportedly preparing a bid for goalkeeper Pepe Reina.

The Napoli manager is focusing on the shot stopper as a number one ahead of the new season. Reina has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona this summer as a replacement for Victor Valdes.

However, Liverpool and Reina have never strayed from their official stance over his future, with the club saying he’s not for sale and the ‘keeper saying he’s happy at Anfield.

Liverpool have shown a £12 million interest in FC Schalke defender Kyriakos Papdopoulos.

The Anfield club have been linked with the Greek centre back for several months as they search for another defensive player to add to the squad.

However, it may not be the best move Brendan Rodgers makes this summer because Papadopoulos is currently carrying an injury problem.

Arsene Wenger has supposedly been given the green light to make a £40 million bid for Liverpool’s Luis Suarez.

Arsenal have already seen a bid rejected for the striker and were thought to be readying a second offer of around £35 million.

However, Brendan Rodgers said it would take something ‘drastic’ for the club to sell Suarez, especially to another Premier League rival.
