Joss Whedon’s Firefly returns as game

San Diego Comic Con debuts iOS and Android game for sci-fi cult classic.

The geek elite at San Diego Comic Con were treated to the debut of Firefly Online, a title based on Joss Whedon’s cult classic sci-fi western.

Players are invited to take on the role of a ship’s captain, recruit renegade crew members and take on dangerous missions, with fully customisable ships and a market for trading with other gamers (via Polygon).

Developed by QMXIi and Spark Plug Games, the title is set to be out mid-2014 but gamers are encouraged to register their interest on the game’s site now.

Meanwhile, the company hopes to tease fans with the following trailer:

"At QMx, we know firsthand how great and powerful a franchise Firefly is and how mighty the Browncoats are," commented Andy Gore, CEO of QMXi.

"It has always been our mission to bring the Verse to life for our customers in every way possible. The idea of creating an interactive experience where fans can have their own Firefly adventures — well, that's just too shiny for words."
