All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from the Etihad…
Manchester City are close to sealing a deal for Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo. With both a transfer fee and personal terms agreed, all that is left is for the player to pass a medical – believed to be some time in the next 24 hours.
In a deal that could rise to £20million, Negredo will become the third City signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Fernandinho and former (and future) teammate Jesus Navas.
Bidding farewell to Sevilla’s fans, the 27-year-old said, “For four years I have been very happy, but I think my time was over here.”
Manuel Pellegrini will hope he can maintain his impressive scoring form of recent seasons, possibly in partnership with Stevan Jovetic.
The Fiorentina player has been linked with City for some time, and reports continue that he will make the switch this summer.
While Manchester United are rumoured to be interested, it is believed City are in the box-seat. The Independent has run an in-depth profile on the player in today’s edition – a worthwhile read for any Blues fan eager to discover exactly who they may soon be signing.
In truth this appears to be a non-story, as the Argentinian has previously stated his desire to remain at the club. But that hasn’t stopped claims that Real Madrid may come calling – especially if the player becomes disillusioned at falling down the pecking order.
Or he could simply take the competition in his stride – as he did when faced with Carlos Tevez and Mario Balotelli. In short, the former Atletico Madrid player isn’t likely to be pulling on the white of their great rivals any time soon.
One player who has now departed the club is Maicon. The Brazilian has completed a £3million move to Roma, having arrived in Manchester only last summer.
With Pellegrini previously stating that the 31-year-old would not be involved in the first-team next season, he has swiftly returned to Serie A, where he will hope to improve on the limited playing-time he enjoyed at the Etihad.
And finally Celtic are reportedly interested in City midfielder Abdisalam Ibrahim. The player only recently extended his loan-deal with Norwegian side Stromsgodset, but he has a clause in his contract that allows him to return to a Premier League side.
The last time I checked, Celtic weren’t based in England’s top flight. But that hasn’t stopped the report as Neil Lennon seeks a replacement for Victor Wanyama; while Crystal Palace are also said to be interested.
