Chelsea transfer news: Rooney deal latest, Ivanovic sale ruled out

A round up of the latest transfer stories and rumours to do with Chelsea.

Jose Mourinho has admitted Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is the club’s only transfer target this summer.

Chelsea had an opening bid for the want away United man rejected but are expected to go back with a second, larger offer as they seek to offer Rooney a way out of his current predicament as a back up player in the North West.

United’s chief executive Ed Woodward left the club’s pre-season tour to return to Manchester, where he is expected to work out a deal with the Blues.

Jose Mourinho says Chelsea have not been contacted by Paris Saint-Germain over the transfer of Branislav Ivanovic.

Rumours were surfacing, which suggested the defender was a priority target for Laurent Blanc at the French giants but Mourinho says the club have no intention of selling one of their best defenders.

“PSG have not contacted Chelsea. And if there is interest, then it is not official,” said Mourinho as per Le 10 Sport.

Chelsea could focus on Bayern Munich midfielder Luiz Gustavo as a replacement for John Obi Mikel.

Mikel’s possible departure to Turkish club Galatasaray leaves a hole in midfield for the Blues, especially in terms of a holding player protecting the defence.

The fee is likely to be around the £16 million mark, which would buy out the rest of his contract.
