Stevan Jovetic is set to sign imminently with Manchester City, after Fiorentina announced a deal had been agreed with the club.
The Italians posted on their Twitter page that an agreement had been struck.
Raggiunto l'accordo con il Manchester City Football Club per la cessione a titolo definitivo del calciatore Stevan Jovetic.— ACF Fiorentina (@ACF_Fiorentina) July 18, 2013
Which translates as: "Reached an agreement with Manchester City Football Club for the permanent transfer of the player Stevan Jovetic."
All that remains now is for Jovetic to agree personal terms, with it reported earlier today that his agent was flying to Manchester to close the deal.
Speaking to the Italian press this evening, Jovetic hinted that Manchester City were his preferred option all along.
He said: "Because it is a very important team, who play the Premier League. I just want to win something. And there I'll find my great friend Nastasic."
City signed Serbian defender Nastastic from Fiorentina last summer, and he clearly remains close pals with Montenegrin forward Jovetic.
His desire to win trophies is a clear reason he has joined the club, as it was the reason he left Serie A's fourth placed finishers Fiorentina in the first place.
He added: "I'm still young, I know I gave it all with this shirt, I wanted a change of scenery."
Arsenal had been favourites to sign Jovetic all year, before the Gunners balked at the fee demanded by Fiorentina, the figure agreed with City has not been specified as yet, but it is thought to be £26 million.
Jovetic had always been encouraging towards Arsenal when quizzed on them, but their trophyless run would clearly make his ambitions more challenging than City, and of course the Gunners do not have his friend Nastasic there either.
The signing will be City's second major one this week, following Alvaro Negredo and complete their attack. With rivals United faltering in the transfer market, it could in many people's eyes make them favourites for the Premier League next season.
Are City the right club for Jovetic?
