Manchester City are close to completing a £20 million deal for Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo. The forward is set to complete a medical with the former Premier League champions, which would then mean just the paperwork needs to be completed before the deal is closed.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho says it’s Wayne Rooney or bust for the Blues this summer. The Portuguese coach says he has no plans to go after further signings and Rooney is the only target the club has in the current transfer window, as he looks to move away from Manchester United.

England and Australia meet in the second Ashes Test at Lords in front of sell out crowds over the five days. England are 1-0 up in the series and another win will put them a step closer towards retaining the urn ahead of the five match series which follows these contests in Australia.

Fifa president Sepp Blatter says he’s determined to have the 2022 World Cup in Qatar moved to the winter because of the intense heat in the summer. The suggestion has been met with opposition because it would mean major disruption to several domestic leagues across Europe and the rest of the world.
