Chelsea latest: Including Wayne Rooney and Bruma

A round-up of news and views relating to Chelsea over the past 24 hours.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is the Blues’ primary target this summer, and confirmed that a bid for the 27-year-old had been lodged.

"I think that this situation is clear - nothing is a secret anymore," he said.

"The official bid is just about a certain amount of money and doesn't involve players.

"We want the player. We made the bid and now we have nothing more to say.

"Now it's up to them and we respect their decision. I work with my players now, as I've done from day one.

There had been speculation that Chelsea had offered Manchester United £10million plus either Juan Mata or David Luiz for Rooney, but the club have denied the rumours, suggesting they had made a straight cash bid of around £27million.

Former Chelsea captain Dennis Wise believes that Rooney would be a fine signing, and that the England international could form a formidable partnership with Fernando Torres. Torres is yet to find his best form at Chelsea, but Wise thinks having Rooney playing behind him will get the best from the Spaniard.

Romelu Lukaku scored Chelsea’s only goal from the penalty spot as the Blues beat Singha All-Stars 1-0. Andre Schurrle and Wallace made their Chelsea bow in the first half, with Marco Van Ginkel a second half substitute.

Jose Mourinho has said he wants to instill a winning mentality at Chelsea, with the players competing every time they step on the pitch.

“You bring that competition to everything you do and it becomes normal that you don’t like to lose. You don’t accept defeat. If you lose, you have to analyse why and that is part of a winning culture,” he said.

Chelsea are set to complete the signing of 18-year-old winger Bruma this week, with the youngster’s agent, Catio Balde, suggesting the transfer saga was set to be resolved. Bruma has made it clear to Sporting Lisbon that he wants to leave the Portuguese club.

On HITC today we look at why Rooney has all the characteristics of a Chelsea signing, and ask if Chelsea can compete for both the Premier League and the Champions League next season.
