Bayern Munich have ruled out the chance of selling midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri to Liverpool.
The Anfield club were linked with the underused winger strongly yesterday but Bayern Munich’s chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has moved quickly to dispel any speculation.
“Liverpool have not made an offer for Shaqiri and we want to keep him. We neither want to loan him out nor sell him. Pep Guardiola rates him very highly,” said Rummenigge.
The agent of Luis Suarez has told the clubs interested in him to make bids of around the £40 million mark.
Arsenal, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are all thought to be interested in the striker with the Gunners having already seen a £30 million offer turned down by Brendan Rodgers’ team.
Bayern Munich could find themselves in a unique position to sign the striker as his agent, Pere Guardiola, is the brother of the German side’s manager Pep Guardiola.
Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has demanded more new signings at the club after sealing a new contract.
Gerrard says he is pleased with the progress the club has made in the transfer market so far this summer, but expects more new faces to strengthen the team before the start of the season.
“We want to see a few more faces to strengthen the team and squad even more. It is an exciting time when you get a couple of new faces in to freshen the squad up,” he said.
