Chelsea transfer news: Rooney deal on, hope in Zouma pursuit

A round up of the latest transfer stories to do with Chelsea.

Chelsea could be set to make a big bid for Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney.

Rooney is thought to be outraged following comments from manager David Moyes, which suggested he saw Rooney as a back up forward to Dutchman Robin van Persie at Old Trafford.

“Overall, my thought on Wayne is that if for any reason we had an injury to Robin Van Persie we are going to need him and I want as many option as possible,” said Moyes.

Chelsea have been offered fresh hope in their pursuit of teenage defender Kurt Zouma.

Wolfsburg were thought to be close to landing the 18-year-old but their sporting director has revealed it doesn’t look as though St Etienne are ready to sell him this summer.

That provides opportunity for Chelsea to come back to the table next year with a fresh offer to secure the Frenchman.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has revealed it was he who stopped Frank Lampard from leaving the club.

Lampard was on the verge of a move away from the Blues but the Portuguese coach managed to talk him out of leaving, before he was appointed as the club’s new manager.

“I was telling him, the way I know you - don't go to American soccer. You are a player who needs to compete every week at the highest level, you are a player that needs to be in real competition,” Mourinho told Sky Sports News.
