Wayne Rooney and Manchester United are set for a stand-off over the striker’s future, with recent comments from David Moyes suggesting the 27-year-old was needed as a back-up for Robin Van Persie apparently infuriating him.
There was already speculation about Rooney’s future after reports he handed in a transfer request towards the end of last season, but Moyes had made it clear he intended to keep the England international this summer.
Arsenal and Chelsea have been linked with the striker, who will likely have to hand in a written transfer request if he wants to push through a move away from Manchester United this summer.
Reports from Spanish paper Marca have linked Santi Cazorla with a move to Atletico Madrid. Marca go as far as to claim that Cazorla has agreed personal terms with the Spanish side, and that Atletico’s owner Miguel Angel Gil Marín is in London to try and negotiate a fee with Arsenal.
This ranks as one of the most unexpected transfer rumours of the summer so far, with Cazorla just one year into his stay at Arsenal, and a key figure at the Emirates after his excellent debut season.
Atletico Madrid have plenty of money to spend after selling Radamel Falcao for £51million, but it is unlikely they will be able to convince Arsenal to part with Cazorla at any price, with the Gunners’ aiming to build a squad capable of challenging for the title this summer.
Arsenal will need to bid £40million if they are to sign Luis Suarez this summer, but there is confusion over whether that figure will trigger a release clause in the Uruguayan’s contract or not.
Suarez’s agent, Pere Guardiola, will apparently argue that fee is enough to act as a release clause for the player, while Liverpool reportedly believe that they only have to listen to offers £40million or more.
Real Madrid have also been linked with the player, with Gonzalo Higuain’s future likely to have a heavy bearing on how negotiations for Suarez progress.
