Arsenal latest: Including 7-1 tour triumph and no bid for Cazorla

Cazorla Arsenal Debut

News and gossip from the past 24 hours at The Emirates.

Arsenal were at it again on their pre-season tour of Asia this time dealing out a 7-1 thrashing to Vietnam. After thrashing an Indonesian XI outfit in the first game of their tour The Gunners happily carried on the streak with Olivier Giroud in fine fiddle once again. The Frenchman bagged a hat-trick in the first half and further goals from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Chuba Akpom (2) and Ignasi Miquel finished the rout.

Wenger was happy with the result and feels they learned from the experience:

‘’We learned first of all to play at a high pace, because it was a pacy game. We learned to suffer physically because we had two hard sessions yesterday and we practised today. The conditions, the climate, are difficult for us so we had to learn to suffer a little bit and keep our concentration to keep the level of our game high.’’

This morning it was reported that Atletico Madrid were ready to make a move for Santi Cazorla. The Spanish international was a revelation last season and the Gunners would not be keen on a sale but Atletico have spending money after selling Falcao to Monaco.

However such reports have now been rubbished by the Spanish outfit.

Reports today in the Luis Suarez saga suggest that Arsenal will have to pay £40 million at the very least for the Uruguayan striker. That is the fee it is said will take the striker away from Liverpool this summer and his representatives are reported to be openly courting interested parties into making an offer for the player.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has confirmed his team is joining the race to sign Gonzalo Higuain. The Argentine has been heavily linked with Arsenal but no deal ever came to fruition. Now the Italian outfit see him as the perfect replacement for Edinson Cavani; who joined PSG this week.

It could be the second transfer target they steal away from Arsenal this summer as a deal for Julio Cesar is closer to completion. The QPR stopper has been heavily linked with Arsenal recently.

Jack Wilshere has been speaking about his fitness. The England international claims his injury fears are now behind him and that he is revved up for the new season:

‘’There’s no long-term injury issues at all for me now. They took the screws out (of my ankle) which was causing me a problem and hopefully there will be no problems in it for me. The first game against Villa will be a massive target for me. I’ll be ready for the start of the season and then play as much as possible.’’

Roma have bid for Gervinho according to reports last night. A deal believed to be worth £6.9 million is to be table this week; however Arsenal could favour selling him to Lyon should the French outfit include Yoann Gourcuff in any deal.
