All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from the Etihad…
Manchester City fans would be forgiven for growing tired of hearing the names Stevan Jovetic and Alvaro Negredo, as both men continued to be linked with the club and yet appeared no nearer to actual moves.
Reports this morning suggested Manuel Pellegrini was close to securing the services of Fiorentina striker Jovetic, just as the likelihood of a deal to pair him with Sevilla’s Negredo was fading.
The fee for Jovetic is believed to be an initial £23million, with an additional £5million in success-related bonuses. But as that deal was moving closer, Sevilla’s president warned there was almost no chance of his striker moving to the Etihad.
Well what a difference a few hours make, because it is now being claimed that City have reached a compromise with the La Liga side.
The Blues are said to have offered £21.5million for the 27-year-old, with the possibility of that deal ultimately rising to £24.5million.
Additional reports claim Negredo will fly to Manchester for his medical next week.
In truth, the Blues’ current midfield options suggest a move for the former Arsenal man is highly unlikely.
Should Pellegrini succeed in signing new frontmen, his next piece of business is likely to involve defensive reinforcements rather than additional midfielders. But stranger things have happened.
And finally, John Guidetti may be set for a return to Feyenoord.
The 21-year-old striker spent a successful loan spell at the Dutch club two years ago and having failed, thus far, to kick-on at City the Eredivisie side are waiting to see if they can welcome him back.
“Guidetti is in our hearts,” said the club’s technical director Martin van Geel. “If we have good luck, we naturally would want him a lot.”
