Benteke is currently in Belgium after left out of Villa’s pre-season tour of Germany, but is expected back on Thursday, where he will no doubt received a frosty reception after handing in a transfer request.
Spurs are expected to make a £20million bid this week, which is short of the £25million Aston Villa value the striker at. Spurs are apparently ready to more than triple Benteke’s £20,000 a week wages, and the 22-year-old is keen to move to White Hart Lane if an agreement with Villa can be reached
FC Twente have said they have not received a bid from Spurs for winger Nacer Chadli, with Swansea City and Shakhtar Donetsk also in the running for the 23-year-old.
Chadli apparently favours a move to Tottenham Hotspur, where he will be able to link up with his international team-mates Jan Vertonghen and Mousa Dembele, but Spurs are yet to make a formal bid for the player, who Twente value at £7.75million.
Andre Villas-Boas is keen to add some cover to the flanks of his attack this summer, with Brazilian youngster Bernard also reportedly a target for Spurs.
Fulham are considering a bid for Tom Huddlestone after the midfielder’s proposed move to Sunderland stalled. Martin Jol is an admirer of the player from his time in charge at Spurs, and has been linked with a move for Huddlestone already this summer.
Spurs are willing to sell the 26-year-old for £5million, but Huddlestone’s wage demands might have been what scuppered the move to Sunderland.
Finally, Gareth Bale has been selected for the front cover of FIFA 14, something Spurs fans might hope is another good omen that the forward is not moving anywhere this summer.
