Could Manchester United be about to miss out on Kevin Strootman too?

Not only have Manchester United missed out on Thiago Alcantara, but the latest reports indicate Cesc Fabregas has no intention of joining the club either.

And there could be worse on the horizon.

For while they have been busy focusing on the Barcelona duo, another midfield target is on the verge of slipping away.

That man is PSV's box-to-box midfielder Kevin Strootman.

The Dutchman has been pursued strongly by Roma over the past fortnight, and that interest is about to be stepped up.

Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport is one of a number of Italian media outlets reporting that a transfer is imminent.

They even claim Strootman is to fly to Rome to undergo a medical on Thursday and join up with his new teammates for pre-season training.

"Coming to Rome, will support medical visits and then join his new team mates in retreat. In the night there was an acceleration in the negotiations, was released the latest smoothly regarding sureties.

"On Strootman Roma have made a major investment. The player will cost nearly twenty million, 17 to be exact, plus two bonus, linked to the achievement of sporting results."

If true, which we should discover over the next 24 hours, it is another serious blow to United, with their top transfer options rapidly been snapped up.

Are all roads leading back to Marouane Fellaini?

What do you think of Strootman's Roma move? Have United messed up?
