Liverpool have been dealt a blow in pursuit of Bayern Munich winger Xherdan Shaqiri. Bayern CEO Karl Heinz Rummenigge said this afternoon 'We will not loan or sell Shaqiri' at a press conference to unveil Thiago Alcantara.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has picked Luis Suarez as part of his squad for the club’s pre-season tour of Asia and Australia. The striker links up with his teammates at a later point after being given more time off following his involvement in the Confederations Cup with Uruguay.

Liverpool could beat Arsenal to the signing of Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain. Suggestions have been aired that Higuain could be used in a part exchange deal for Luis Suarez, which could be a deal that Brendan Rodgers is open to should Higuain agree to it.

The agent of Ajax midfielder Christian Eriksen says his player turned down a move to Bayer Leverkusen because they weren’t a big enough club. A move to Liverpool is still on the cards as Eriksen has previously stated that he would only leave the Netherlands for a huge team.

Liverpool teenager Raheem Sterling says he’s determined to have a big impact with club and country next season. Reports suggest Sterling is in fine form in pre-season training, following a thigh injury which stopped him from being part of the England Under-21 squad for the European Championship.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard says he wants to see more new signings at the club before the start of the new season. Gerrard says the players are exactly like the fans and want to see new faces which will help Liverpool compete next season as they aim to break into the top four.

Former Liverpool front man Neil Mellor says Luis Suarez should show a bit of loyalty to the club. Suarez is constantly being linked with a move away from Anfield with Arsenal thought to be readying an improved offer after their £30 million bid was rejected.
