£4 million Arsenal flop set for medical to complete Bosman

Recently released Arsenal defender Sebastien Squillaci is on the brink of signing for Bastia.

Sebastien Squillaci can soon be confined to the bad memory bin by Arsenal supporters, with the defender released by the club at the end of last month.

Now he is about to seal his next move, to French side Bastia who finished 12th in Ligue One last season.

The club confirmed on their website this afternoon:

"The Sporting Club de Bastia is pleased to announce that an agreement has been reached with international defender Sebastien Squillaci, resident of Arsenal during the last 3 seasons."

All that stands in his path now is a medical examination, with a contract for a one-year deal scheduled to be signed on Thursday.

He was signed by Arsene Wenger in 2010 at a cost of £4 million, and made a total of 40 appearances for the club, scoring twice.

Of that total, just one appearance came in 2012/13, a Champions League defeat away to Olympiakos.

Squillaci ended up a much-derided figure among the Arsenal support, and at 32-years-old he is in real need of rejuvenating his career, but at least should get some playing time for Bastia.

He has a total of 21 French caps to his name, but did not win a single one while at the Gunners.

What is your favourite Squillaci moment from his time at Arsenal? Do you even have one?
