The strikers, who currently play for Sevilla and Fiorentina respectively, have been linked with the Blues for some time, and it seems they are close to adding considerable firepower to Manuel Pellegrini’s armoury.
But as with many stories there are contrary reports – this one claiming Negredo is still some way off a City switch.
The Spanish club’s president Jose Maria del Nido has said he is in no hurry to sell the striker, and that the ideal situation would be to keep him at the club.
“With Negredo there has been progress but we are far from reaching an agreement,” he said. “Right now it’s further away than it was at the time with Atletico Madrid.”
Considering Sevilla reportedly pulled out of negotiations with their La Liga rivals due to similar frustrations, Pellegrini will hope to conclude a deal as soon as possible.
The Chilean doesn’t appear to be a man phased by pressure – whether during transfer dealings or as a result of the expectation he now faces.
“A coach who has worked in Argentina can work in any part of the world,” he said.
“If you lose the superclasico you can’t go out of your home for at least a week, you have to hide.”
“I am used to being under pressure,” he added, “the pressure at Real Madrid is about the same as Manchester City.”
He doesn’t have long to wait before his first taste of his latest club’s greatest rivalry.
And finally, less than 24 hours after Pellegrini announced the imminent departure of Maicon, the Brazilian has arrived in Italy ahead of a potential move to Roma.
The Serie A side have reportedly had a £4million offer accepted, with the defender now set to discuss personal terms.
