Gilbert Imbula is a player who has been on Arsenal and Chelsea's radar for the past few months.
Just four weeks ago, The Mirror reported:
"Arsenal manager Wenger has been monitoring the Guingamp midfielder for months and Imbula is also keen on a move to the Premier League.
"The 20-year-old has also been watched by Chelsea and Lyon, with Guingamp likely to want around £8million to part with him this summer."
Now it appears both clubs appear to have been thwarted in their efforts to sign the youngster, who has quite predictably been compared to Patrick Vieira.
Marseille have made an opening €6 million bid for Imbula, with add-ons. Guingamp are said to be holding out for more, closer to the £8 million they have consistently quoted.
Imbula was rated the best player in Ligue 2 last season, and is keen to test himself at a higher level, abroad or in France.
The paper insist Marseille's interest in him is serious, and expect them to 'quickly submit a higher offer', bearing in mind the interest in the player from other clubs.
Arsenal and Chelsea may well be monitoring developments, and this could spur them into making a bid of their own.
Otherwise if they do not there is a very strong chance that Imbula will be playing his club football in Marseille next season, rather than in London, and they will miss out entirely.
Are you concerned? Or are Marseille welcome to him?
