Liverpool weekend round-up: Four new signings linked and Suarez severs all ties?

All the news, views and transfer rumours from Anfield this weekend…

Despite the absence of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge, Liverpool ran out 4-0 winners in their pre-season friendly against Preston North End on Saturday.

Philippe Coutinho, Jordon Ibe, Raheem Sterling and debutant Iago Aspas all found the net, while fellow new signing Luis Alberto also appeared in the second half.

And it seems those signings are only the beginning if today’s reports are to be believed. Long-term targets Christian Eriksen and Toby Alderweireld could arrive in a £22million double-deal.

With just a year left on his contract, Eriksen has long been expected to leave this summer. And Ajax manager Frank de Boer will not stand in his way.

It is up to Christian what he wants,” the Dutchman said. “If he feels good going to Liverpool, then it is up to him.”

Belgian defender Alderwiereld recently turned down a move to Norwich, and could arrive at Anfield for around £7million.

The third potential new arrival is Chelsea’s Ryan Bertrand, as Brendan Rodgers continues his search for a new left-back.

And even that may not be the end of the Reds’ transfer business, if reports linking them with a move for Bayern Munich’s outstanding winger Xherdan Shaqiri are true.

Currently competing for a starting place with Franck Ribery, the Swiss international is set to meet with Pep Guardiola next week, with reports suggesting he will ask for a move.

Why he would leave the most up-and-coming team in Europe – and its reigning champions – remains to be seen. But Shaqiri is far too talented to spend the majority of his time on anyone’s bench.

One man set for the Anfield exit is Luis Suarez, and he has spoken again of his desire to leave.

It is hard to view the Premier League every week with never a chance of winning it,” the Uruguayan said.

That is quite an indictment on his current team, and one he is unlikely to come back from.

And finally, Reds midfielder Jay Spearing has turned down a move to Blackburn Rovers in the hope of joining former loan club Bolton Wanders.

Liverpool had agreed a fee of £1.5million with Rovers, before Spearing turned down the chance in the hope of Bolton making an offer of their own.
