News and gossip from the past 48 hours at White Hart Lane.
Tottenham are said to be increasing their interest in Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke this weekend; with a £20 million bid said to be on the verge of being submitted. The Belgian handed in a transfer request at Villa Park last week and it is widely suggested that Spurs are his number one choice for a new destination.
Tottenham are trying desperately to raise funds for new signings this summer and need to sell Emmanuel Adebayor before they have any chance of signing Benteke this summer. However finding suitors for the Togolese striker is so far proving difficult for the club; with Besiktas the only team with concrete interest so far. The Turkish outfit are unlikely to meet Spurs’ asking price for the player.
Spurs are set to join Monaco and Liverpool in the race for impressive Finnish starlet Joel Pohjanpalo this summer. The 18-year-old forward made the news for scoring a hat-trick in three minutes on his full debut for current club HJK Helskinki last season and is worth £1 million.
They are also being linked with Arsenal target Alvaro Vadillo of Real Betis.
West Brom are being linked with a move for Clint Dempsey. The American only signed for Spurs last summer from Fulham but had a limited effect on first team proceedings last term and is therefore considered a potentially disposable asset.
On the site we have had a quick glance at the centre back options for the club next season. With Younes Kaboul now back in full training the club has plenty of options to play in the two centre back slots next term and Nick Harris has looked through the possibilities.
Finally, and Tom Huddlestone looks set to finally leave the club. He has been linked with a move away from the club for a while now but it seems a move to Sunderland is now on the brink of completion. It is said the cost of the move will be £5 million after he saw his first-team opportunities diminish even further with the arrival of Paulinho.
