Despite already signing four players for their first team squad already this summer, Liverpool’s transfer business is apparently far from being over.
As well as the ongoing Luis Suarez saga, Brendan Rodgers is keen to continue strengthening his squad at Anfield, with Christian Eriksen, Toby Alderweireld and Ryan Bertrand all on the radar.
The Ajax pair could cost a combine fee of around £22million, with the 21-year-old Eriksen likely to make up the bulk of that having been valued at around £15million by the Dutch club.
Bertrand might be interested in a move to Anfield as he faces the prospect of another season behind Ashley Cole in the pecking order at Chelsea.
Rodgers worked with the 23-year-old at Chelsea, and also signed him on loan when at Reading, and there has been speculation that Bertrand might be involved in a deal for Luis Suarez should Chelsea step up their interest in the Uruguayan.
The trio of signings matches Liverpool’s policy of targeting young players with plenty of potential. If Eriksen, Alderweireld and Bertrand continued their development at Anfield, Liverpool could have three excellent players on their books in a couple of seasons.
Eriksen in particular has the potential to become a wonderful player, and with Borussia Dortmund no longer in the running for the 21-year-old, Liverpool could be favourites to sign him this summer.
Alderweireld has frequently been compared to his compatriots Jan Vertonghen and Thomas Vermaelen, and although the 24-year-old is not at their level yet, he has the ability to become a fine defender.
Adding the trio would be a huge boost to Liverpool’s squad, and each has the potential to become a first team regular next season. Having brought in the likes of Iago Aspas and Luis Alberto already, and with January signings Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho likely to get even better next season, bringing in Eriksen, Alderweireld and Bertrand would certainly put Liverpool in contention for a Champions League place.
