Manchester United have missed out on the signing of Thiago Alcantara
Manchester United's number one summer target has signed for Bayern Munich, according to reports.
Thiago Alcantara had been hotly tipped to move to Old Trafford from Barcelona.
A clause in his contract was reported to have made him available for €18 million, due to failing to play a stipulated number of games last season.
United were strongly claimed to have made him an offer, with reports in Spain at one stage claiming a deal was imminent.
Instead the Pep Guardiola factor has sealed his switch to Bayern Munich, with Guardiola's brother also Thiago's agent.
Spanish paper Marca is one of several sources running the reports that Thiago has clinched a move to Bayern:
"Barcelona and Bayern Munich has reached an agreement that will see Thiago Alcántara join the Bundesliga outfit for €25m. The deal also includes a friendly match between the two clubs to be played during the next four years.
"The 22 year-old Spanish international leaves the Catalan club after two full seasons with the first team, and he will be reunited in Munich with his former Barcelona coach, Pep Guardiola."
The decision does not leave United's plans this summer in disarray, but it is certainly a blow.
