Liverpool linked with winger who scored this screamer against England

Could Liverpool snap up Xerdan Shaqiri from Bayern Munich this summer?

Last week Liverpool lost out on their latest transfer target in the form of Henrikh Mkhitaryan after the Armenian signed on the dotted line of a big money move to Borussia Dortmund.

Naturally when a team chases one player and ultimately fails there will automatically be a couple of knee-jerk rumours knocking around the joint.

Christian Eriksen has previously been mooted as an object of interest for the Anfield club and the Ajax midfielder is clearly allowed to leave at the right price; so that may be the solution to whatever problem it is Rodgers feels needs fixing this summer.

But The Metro believe another target entirely has been earmarked for the club; Swiss superstar Xerdan Shaqiri.

For those who are not familiar with the mercurial attacker here he is scoring what can only be described as a belter against England earlier in his career…

Liverpool fans may know him well from the time he embarrassed Manchester United in the Champions League back in 2011; setting up both goals as FC Basel won the fixture with a shock 2-1 result at St Jakob-Park.

It was a result that knocked United out of the Champions League at the Group Stage and left United red faced.

So forgetting the goal against England the 21-year-old should be popular amongst Liverpool fans already just for that.

Nowadays he is at Bayern Munich and struggling for first-team football despite his obvious talent. He only started a handful of games at the club last season and with the arrival of Pep Guardiola and Mario Gotze it is reported his time at the club might be coming to an end.

How likely is the transfer?

Well it would certainly be an excellent signing and considering the club were willing to match offers from Dortmund for Mkhitaryan this summer they would have no issue getting their hands on the £20 million or so being quoted for the player.

Would you like to see Shaqiri at Anfield?
