News and gossip from the past 48 hours at The Emirates.
Arsenal have got their pre-season off to the perfect start. The Gunners, in their brand new away kit, romped to a 7-0 victory against an Indonesia XI. Arsenal had plenty of youngsters on show along with some of their more experienced players. Gedion Zelalem and Serge Gnabry all featured in the game while Chuba Akpom and Kristoffer Olsson even found the target in the game.
The other goals came from Theo Walcott, Lukas Podolski and Thomas Eisfeld while Olivier Giroud grabbed a brace.
Arsene Wenger is set to snub Paris Saint-Germain and sign a £7.5 million a year deal at The Emirates. The Frenchman has been strongly linked with taking over at PSG next summer but he announced he has been in touch with Ivan Gazidis about a new deal and that talks were positive.
Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Thomas Vermaelen will remain as Arsenal captain next season; regardless of his injury problems. The Belgian international was dropped toward the end of last season and has been struggling with back problems throughout pre-season. However Wenger confirmed he will remain club captain.
It looks as though Arsenal will miss out on QPR keeper Julio Cesar after all. Napoli are now said to be on the verge of signing the player despite already agreeing a move for another Brazilian in the form of Rafael from Santos. The deal is said to be a one-year loan.
The clock is ticking on a deal to sign Maraoune Feelaini from Everton. His £23.5 million buy-out clause reportedly expires in a week and it is believed that Arsenal are still unsure on whether the Belgian is the right target for the club. Manchester United are also keen.
Arsenal’s former young goalkeeper Reice Charles-Cook has found a new club. Despite impressing in the NextGen Series last season he was released at the end of the campaign. He has signed for League Two side Bury on a 12-month deal.
And regarding Luis Suarez and Gonzalo Higuain … no further news unfortunately on the striker hunt but after the 7-0 drubbing who needs them?
