Arsenal transfer news: Krul and Gunners join Bernard chase

Transfer news from The Emirates this morning including Spurs target Bernard, Newcastle United keeper Tim Krul, Ignazio Abate and Joel Campbell.

Arsenal are said to have joined the race for Brazilian international attacking midfielder Bernard of Atletico Mineiro; with some reports in Brazil claiming they are the favourites to snap up the Tottenham Hotspur target.

The talented maestro has been talking up a move to Europe recently with FC Porto seemingly at the front of any queue.

But it is reported in Brazil that the Gunners are willing to match the €25 million asking price for the starlet and lure him away from Brazil.

It is early days yet, and no deal will happen until after Atletico face Olimpia in the Copa Libertadores final, but this is certainly a deal to keep an eye on this week.

Another report from abroad claims that Arsenal may solve their right-back situation by signing AC Milan star Ignazio Abate.

The Italian international’s contract expires at the end of the season and with Bacary Sagna’s future in doubt the Gunners are said to be considering their options in the right-back position.

Abate is in the same quandary as Sagna; with his contract expiring next summer. But AC Milan are said to be open to a £10.3 million bid for the 26-year-old who has so far failed to negotiate a deal with the Rossoneri.

Tim Krul was linked with the club in yesterday’s gossip columns however the Dutch international is said to be looking forward to starting the season with current club Newcastle United; after spending the last two months of the season out with a shoulder injury.

Finally and Joel Campbell’s loan deal to Real Betis has collapsed.

The Spanish outfit wanted to take the Costa Rican on loan again this season after a successful 2013-14 with the club.

However Arsenal have demanded too high a fee for the 21-year-old attacker and Betis boss Pepe Mel has pulled the plug on any deal.
