Chelsea latest: Including Cech and Bruma

Petr Cech

A round-up of news and views relating to Chelsea over the past 24 hours.

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has said that Jose Mourinho’s return will not guarantee the Blues the Premier League title next season, and suggested that both Manchester City and Manchester United will also be given a boost by the arrival of a new manager this summer.

"Even if they have new managers, they have the same players. They will have new motivation under a new manager, so it will be difficult,” he said.

Mourinho himself has spoken about Cech today, saying there was no doubt that the Czech international is the number one keeper at Stamford Bridge despite the recent arrival of Mark Schwarzer. The Chelsea manager also said he was pleased to have signed Schwarzer to provide back up to Cech.

Chelsea have sent midfielder Oriol Romeu on loan to Valencia for a season. The 21-year-old missed the second half of last season with injury, and was not expected to be in Chelsea’s plan for next year. Romeu is the fourth player Mourinho has loaned out since returning to Stamford Bridge following Marko Marin, Thibaut Courtois and Patrick Van Aanholt.

Jose Mourinho believes he will be a better manager in his second stint at Stamford Bridge. Since leaving Chelsea in 2007 Mourinho has taken charge of Inter and Real Madrid, and the Portuguese manager thinks the experience he has gained will stand in him in good stead to bring more success to Chelsea in the coming years.

David Moyes has again reiterated his stance that Wayne Rooney will not be sold this summer after Mourinho expressed admiration for the Manchester United striker. Rooney has returned from Manchester United’s pre-season tour with an injury.

Sporting Lisbon winger Bruma has declared he will leave the Portuguese club this summer, and his lawyer, Bebiano Gomes, has said the 18-year-old is available on a free as his contract expired at the end of last month. Chelsea and Galatasaray are amongst the teams chasing Bruma, who impressed for Portugual at the recent Under-20 World Cup.

On HITC today we look at five players who need to impress for Chelsea during pre-season, and ask if Fulham have the right to feel aggrieved at Schwarzer’s move to Stamford Bridge. We also look at reports suggesting Andre Schurrle is suffering from homesickness since leaving Germany.
