News from the continent including former Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United targets.
The big news today is that Real Madrid have completed their signing of Real Sociedad midfielder Asier Illarramendi for a massive £34 million fee. Described as the ‘next Xabi Alonso’ he recently starred in the European Under-21 Championships and was reportedly the first choice of new manager Carlo Ancelotti.
Speaking about the deal the 23-year-old said:
"I came to the conclusion that it was an offer I couldn't refuse. It's a unique opportunity."
He has signed a six-year deal.
Thiago Silva has put an end to rumours suggesting he has agreed a deal to sign for Barcelona. The PSG defender has been heavily linked with the Spanish champions since the Confederations Cup triumph but he and his agent confirmed that no agreement was in place or in the pipe-line to be agreed.
It also looks like Manchester United are missing out on a transfer target as several reports today continue to claim that Bayern Munich will be signing Thiago Alcantara instead. The Spanish youngster has reportedly agreed a four-year deal to reunite himself with Pep Guardiola at the German and European champions.
Bayer Leverkusen have replaced new Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal with German international Roberto Hilbert. The 28-year-old was previously with Besiktas but the Bundesliga outfit have moved to bring him home after his contract in Turkey expired.
Last night Juventus agreed to sign Torino defender Angelo Ogbonna. The Italian international has previously been linked with moves to the Premier League but after weeks of negotiations a €13 million fee has been agreed between the two Turin clubs for the 25-year-old Italian international who has signed a five-year deal with the Bianconeri.
Rumours over the future of Cristiano Ronaldo continue to rumble on. It is now believed he met with AS Monaco’s billionaire owner Dimitriy Rybolovlev last week to discuss a move to the principality next summer.
