Epic Games working on unannounced shooter

Company founder hints at upcoming triple-A title; photo-realistic games in 10 years.

Epic Games founder Tim Sweeney has revealed that the Gears of War and Unreal Tournament maker is working on a new “triple-A shooter”.

Speaking about the project the company is currently working on, Sweeney talked with Eurogamer about the scale of the projects.

"Now we're building several games at different scales. We're building Fortnite, a PC online game which is a fun, sort of Minecraft meets Left 4 Dead... It's not aiming to beat Call of Duty in terms of graphics. It's more of a Pixar art style,” he explained.

"We're building a bigger, triple-A shooter project that hasn't been announced yet. And we've also internally started developing really tiny projects with two or three guys working together as a team for a few months in small scale game development.”

Additionally, he told an audience at the Develop Conference that gaming hardware isn't far from delivering visuals that are “indistinguishable from reality”.

Citing Moore's Law, he continued: “We'll be able to render environments that are absolutely photo-realistic within the next 10 years, like indistinguishable from reality level of graphics."

Epic Games has suffered a number of high-profile defections and personnel losses, with Gears of War developer Chris Wynn leaving to work on the next Mass Effect game, after president Mike Capps, producer Rod Fergusson and designer Cliff Bleszinski also jumped ship.
