US retailers close off sales as high demand snaps up stock.

Retailers across the US are shutting down their pre-order offers for Microsoft's Xbox One as consumers scramble for to be early adopters of the next-gen machines.

American electronics behemoth Best Buy has revealed it is no longer taking reservations for the new console, while online top dog Amazon has also ended its launch day offering 'Day One' box.

However, Amazon is continuing to offer pre-orders of the Xbox One, but not with the guarantee that it will arrive at launch.

This news follows reports that leading US games retailer GameStop has closed off pre-orders for the PlayStation 4, citing high demand.

However, GamesIndusty.biz points out that this is far from ubiquitous and that many stores are still offering deals on both consoles, such as Wal-mart and Target.

The Amazon 'Day One' edition is still available in the UK as is the company's pre-orders for PS4s, while Game.co.uk is also still accepting deposits for both consoles.
