Reports from Spain suggest Thiago Alcantara has chosen a move to Bayern Munich. The long time Manchester United target is believed to be David Moyes’ number one transfer target; and yet the prospect of reuniting with Pep Guardiola may have swayed the midfielder’s decision.
The claims were made by Spanish radio station Cadena COPE and are now being reported by Marca.
They come after Guardiola had previously ruled out a move for his former player. And yet the absence of any move to United – despite weeks of speculation – may now have been explained. The player may simply have been deciding. And it appears he has decided on the Bundesliga.
Of course tomorrow conflicting reports could appear that he is set for a move to the English champions. Such is the fickle face of the rumour mill.
But the simple fact is, the longer United go without securing their man, the less likely his arrival appears.
Another long term target is Cristiano Ronaldo; but Manchester City are said to be considering a move to bring him back to (the other half of) Manchester.
If he becomes available this summer – and it is a big if – City are prepared to beat any financial package United offer.
Although money isn’t likely to be the determining factor in any move – with the emotional pull of a return to his former home likely to render any City bid pointless.
