All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from the Etihad…
Manchester City were today linked with a move for Cristiano Ronaldo. The report claimed the Blues were prepared to better any financial package offered by Manchester United, should the forward decide to leave Real Madrid.
A reported wage packet of more than £300,000-a-week would tempt most, but even if the extremely unlikely happens and the Portuguese does leave his self-professed dream club, his affinity to Old Trafford would surely render any City move impossible.
One player Manuel Pellegrini could beat David Moyes to is Stevan Jovetic.
One of the poster boys of this year’s rumour mill, the Fiorentina striker is believed to be close to a £28million move to the Etihad…despite apparent late interest from United.
The fact that Arsenal have been tracking the 23-year-old for over a year doesn’t get a mention.
The report also claims that a final round of talks between the player and each of his Manchester suitors will still take place before a decision is made.
“Right now I’m at Sevilla and I like it very much,” he said.
“I’m happy on a personal level but collectively we have not achieved the goals we wanted.
“Now perhaps I am at a decisive moment for my future.”
To be happy or to be successful – the luckiest of players are both.
One player who could be on his way out of the club is Scott Sinclair. The former Swansea man is reportedly on Newcastle’s shopping list, and after a disappointing first season at City it would be no surprise to see him leave for the regular football his talent deserves.
And finally, Pellegrini has revealed he is not concerned with the pressure of winning trophies.
“I’m not only here to win trophies,” he said, “I’m here to work with young players.”
“I’m not concerned about finishing second. I’m not concerned about the pressures.”
