Real Madrid are prepared to rival Arsenal for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, with the ensuing bidding war likely to send the Uruguayan’s transfer fee over £40million. Arsenal have reportedly already had a £30million bid for Suarez turned down, with Madrid apparently ready to enter the race with a £40million offer.
Suarez is believed to favour a move abroad due to perceived media hostility towards him in England, but also recently indicated he was flattered by the interest Arsenal had shown in him. Bayern Munich might also consider a move for the 26-year-old, with Pep Guardiola an admirer.
Arsenal have not given up hope of signing former midfielder Cesc Fabregas this summer, and are preparing to exercise their £25million first option on the 26-year-old if he should decide his future lies away from Barcelona.
If the Spanish side do decide to sell Fabregas, Arsenal will be offered him at this price before any other side can enter the bidding, but Barcelona are keen to keep the midfielder at the club, especially with Thiago Alcantara expected to leave this summer.
So far Fabregas himself has indicated he wants to stay and fight for a first team place at Barcelona, but that could change if he wants to guarantee himself regular football ahead of next summer’s World Cup.
Nicklas Bendtner’s proposed move to Eintracht Frankfurt is on the verge of collapse due to the Arsenal striker’s wage demands. Bendtner is prepared to take a significant pay cut to join the German side, but even then he would be the highest earner at the club.
A fee has already been agreed with Arsenal, who are keen to get the Dane off their books this summer permanently after two loan spells in recent seasons.
