Arsenal latest: Including Gervinho illness and Higuain fading

News and gossip from the past 24 hours at The Emirates.

The move for Luis Suarez is set to be increased as what seemed a done deal for Gonzalo Higuain begins to unravel. The Evening Standard report that Carlo Ancelotti is set to speak to the Argentine international about his role next week when he returns to pre-season training on Monday.

The same report is also doom and gloom regarding Maraoune Fellaini and Julio Cesar.

They report Fellaini is too expensive for Wenger while Napoli now appear to have taken the lead in the hunt for the Brazilian international; with a season long loan and subsequent permanent deal on the table.

Arsenal's Gervinho will not be playing a part in the club's pre-season tour it appears, after the forward was left at home after suffering from an illness. The former Lille man has been linked back with a move to France this summer, while striking outcast Marouane Chamakh has also been left at home.

Former Gunner Kolo Toure believes Suarez should stay at Anfield. The Ivorian is now a Liverpool player himself and he feels that the 26-year-old striker has more chance of winning silverware if he remains in Liverpool under the Brendan Rodgers project.

Arsenal are set to step up their interest in Swansea City defender Ashley Williams. Thomas Vermaelen’s continued problems with a chronic back issue have reportedly forced Arsenal’s hand and Wenger is said to be a fan of the Wales captain. However Swansea would have to lower their asking price for the 28-year-old for a transfer to go through.

In yet another rather speculative transfer story it is believed The Gunners have a buy-back clause for Cesc Fabregas. It is said they can activate the clause for £25 million and they are said to be considering a move; despite Fabregas’ recent assertions that he has no plans to leave Catalonia this summer.

Two deals are off at Arsenal. First of all Clement Grenier, who has openly courted the Gunners in the past, has decided to sign a new contract at current club Lyon keeping him at the Ligue 1 outfit until 2016.

While Nicklas Bendtner’s transfer to Eintracht Frankfurt has now officially fallen through after the Bundesliga outfit were reluctant to meet his wage demands.

But in more uplifting news it seems Arsenal are lining up a bid for Sevilla’s French midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia. He was originally set to join Real Madrid but after Los Blancos made it clear that Asier Illaramendi was their number one target they have left the door open to potential interest from Arsenal.
