Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke continues to dominate the transfer gossip columns today, with reports suggesting that the Belgian currently favours a move to Tottenham Hotspur, but Villa will not budge from their £25million price-tag.
The 22-year-old has three years left on his contract, and after a debut season where he scored 23 times, Aston Villa are in a strong negotiating position despite Benteke’s transfer request. In the past they have shown themselves to be stern negotiators, getting huge fees for players like James Milner, Stewart Downing and Ashley Young.
This will be a concern for Spurs fans, as it could mean Daniel Levy will delay the transfer until the closing weeks of the window in an attempt to force Villa to lower the price, something that will cost Spurs the chance to have a settled side in their opening matches of the season.
Jese Rodriguez is set to stay at Real Madrid after discussing his future with Carlo Ancelotti. The 20-year-old impressed at the Under-20 World Cup this summer, and had previously indicated he would be prepared to leave the Bernabeu to get more first team football.
Spurs were interested in the winger, whose current contract only runs until next June, but Jese is now unlikely to leave Real Madrid.
QPR are set to step up their interest in Scott Parker now that Paulinho has been confirmed as Tottenham Hotspur’s first signing of the summer. Harry Redknapp is keen to be reunited with Parker, and is pushing for his club to launch a £2million bid for the 32-year-old.
Spurs are prepared to let Parker leave to remove his £60,000 per week wages off their bill, but might hold out for more than £2million. The midfielder himself might also wait to decide on QPR’s bid in case there is interest from other Premier League sides this summer.
