A round-up of news and views relating to Tottenham Hotspur over the past 24 hours.
Christian Benteke reportedly favours a move to Tottenham Hotspur this summer after handing in a transfer request at Aston Villa. Chelsea and Liverpool are also apparently keen on the striker, who Villa value at around £25million. However the Midlands club would prefer to sell Benteke to Chelsea if both London meet their valuation of the Belgian, as they believe they got a hard deal over a recent loan deal for Jermaine Jenas.
Tom Carroll has said he is aiming to build on his promising breakthrough last season and play more first team matches for Spurs next year. Carroll made 14 senior appearances in all last season, and the 21-year-old hopes he will continue to impress.
“Hopefully I’ll push on again and make more appearances for Spurs. That’s what I want to do,” he said.
“I’m not a cemented squad member yet, I know that, so I’ll take nothing for granted and continue to work hard.”
Spurs are reportedly close to agreeing a £7million deal for FC Twente winger Nacer Chadli. The Belgian international can play on either flank, and scored against Spurs when they played FC Twente in the Champions League two years ago. On HITC today we look at what the 23-year-old could bring to Spurs if he was signed this summer.
Spurs are also apparently considering a £20million bid for Roma midfielder Miralem Pjanic. The 23-year-old has been a target for Spurs over the past couple of transfer windows, and the London club might hope that the appointment of former Roma director Franco Baldini will help them land Pjanic this summer.
Another Serie A player Spurs reportedly have their eye on is Inter defender Andrea Ranocchia, who has also attracted interest from Zenit St Petersburg. Ranocchia has also been linked with Manchester United this summer, and could leave Inter after they finished ninth in Serie A last season.
On HITC today we ask if Spurs should revive their interest in Ajax midfielder Christian Eriksen, and look at whether Real Madrid’s arrogance will hinder their pursuit of Gareth Bale.
