Football League transfer talk: Including Ince and Austin

Blackpool, Blackburn Rovers, Wigan Athletic and Nottingham Forest all feature.

Wigan Athletic are lining up a move for FC Utrecht striker Jacob Mulenga according to the latest reports. Wigan are leading the race for the 29-year-old Zambian who also appears to be a target for Nottingham Forest. He scored 14 goals for his current side in the Eredivisie last season.

Cardiff City are thought to be closing on a deal to sign Tom Ince from Blackpool. Ince has travelled to Cardiff to go through the formalities of the deal but has insisted that he will listen to any other offers which are made with huge clubs like Liverpool reportedly still interested.

Swansea City have dismissed claims that they are close to a deal for Wigan defender Ronnie Stam. Stam is currently available as a free agent with his deal at Wigan expiring after last season and a whole host of top clubs are thought to be interested in him.

Alex Marrow has rejoined Blackburn Rovers in a deal from Crystal Palace. Marrow originally signed for Palace during the 2011 winter transfer window. He will now link up with former reserve team manager Gary Bowyer, who has direct experience of working with the 23-year-old.

Barnsley have signed Wales defender Lewin Nyatanga on a two-year deal. The 24-year-old’s contract with previous side Bristol City expired at the end of last season. He already has experience of being at Barnsley thanks to three loan spells he spent with the club earlier in his career.

Burnley striker Charlie Austin has failed a medical at Hull City. A problem with the forward’s knee caused the failure and Hull boss Steve Bruce says it’s more disappointing for the player, with the club having spent three to four weeks working on the deal.

Jonathan Greening has agreed to take on a player/coach role with Nottingham Forest ahead of the new season. Greening will be available to Billy Davies in the first team squad and will juggle his coaching commitments alongside his duties as one of the more experienced players at the club.
