Despite initially claiming he would only leave Liverpool to move away from the Premier League, Luis Suarez has indicated he would be prepared to go to another English side by suggesting he was flattered by links with Arsenal.
Arsenal had a £30million bid for the striker turned down last week, and Suarez is apparently keen to find out the Gunners’ intentions regarding increasing that bid. Chelsea are also monitoring the 26-year-old, who will return to England on the 21st July to begin his pre-season training.
Suarez has made it clear to Liverpool he wants to leave this summer, and has said he has two or three options. Liverpool are expected to hold out for at least £40million for the Uruguayan, who scored 30 times in all competitions last season.
Lyon midfielder Clement Grenier has said that nothing has been decided about his future yet, with Arsenal hopeful of signing the 22-year-old this summer. Grenier’s current contract at Lyon expires next year, and he is in talks with the French club to resolve his immediate future.
Lyon have previously said they will rebuff any bids for Grenier, and placed a €37million price-tag on his head in an attempt to deter potential suitors. However given that he only has one year left on his contract, Arsenal would expect to reduce that fee considerably if Grenier opted to leave.
However one player Arsenal will not be able to prise away from Lyon is Maxime Gonalons, with the 24-year-old saying he wants to stay at the French club next season. The 24-year-old had been targeted by several top teams after an excellent season, and had previously suggested he would be prepared to move this summer.
Gonalons has now said he will stay and continue his development at Lyon, and that he wants to win trophies with the French side. Lyon will face a tricky domestic season next year, with Monaco joining PSG in spending lavishly to improve their squads this summer.
