A round up of the latest sports news including Alastair Cook on the Ashes, Suarez hints at transfer and Cavendish not to blame for crash.

The Ashes is under way with England and Australia meeting in the first Test at Trent Bridge. England are the huge favourites heading into the five match series but Australia have made it very clear they are confident of pulling off one of the biggest shocks in Ashes history.

Chelsea have secured the signing of veteran goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer on a one-year deal ahead of the new season. The 40-year-old accepts he will play second fiddle to Petr Cech at Stamford Bridge but says it’s an offer he couldn’t turn down once he realised the Blues were interested.

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has revealed that two or three clubs are looking to sign him ahead of the new season. The Uruguayan has said he is due back to Liverpool on July 21 but says a quick phone call could change that situation, effectively confirming that he will leave.

Alastair Cook has told his England team to be ready for a huge battle against Australia. The long anticipated Ashes series is under way and Cook says Australia have several individuals who can hurt England over the course of five Test matches this summer.

Mark Cavendish has said he is not responsible for the crash at the end of the tenth stage of the Tour de France. Cavendish collided with Tom Veelers but took to Twitter to defend himself; “Just seen the sprint. I believe I didn't move line. I'm actually coming past Veelers and we touch elbows when he moves.”

Former Grand Slam winner Stefan Edberg has become the latest individual to suggest Andy Murray will win multiple Grand Slam titles. Edberg says Murray has proven he is the best player at the moment on grass and expects him to win another Wimbledon title in the future.
