Manchester United transfer news: Strootman talks of move and Ronaldo hopes dashed

Cristiano Ronaldo United

A select round-up of transfer news relating to Manchester United, including Leighton Baines, Kevin Strootman and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Having had an initial bid for Leighton Baines rejected last month, Manchester United are reportedly readying a second offer for the left-back.

Everton’s new boss Roberto Martinez has already stated the importance of keeping the England international. But media suggestions are that a bid in the region of £20million will be hard to turn down.

The latest stories claim David Moyes won’t go that high, so expect a second offer to be greeted with similar apathy to the first. And yet having pursued Baines for so long, it will be interesting to see how high United are ultimately willing to go.

Reportedly a long-term target of United, Kevin Strootman may be leaving current club PSV this summer – but not to any of his oft-reported suitors.

Following previous statements from the Dutch club’s sporting director that the player would remain for one more season, Strootman has spoken of a possible exit.

There are several clubs interested,” he said.

This not to say that any are in the world’s top six. Whether the club I leave for must play in the Champions League? That wasn’t the case when I moved to PSV.”

In light of such comments, Moyes may consider a move for the midfielder. Then again…he may simply not be interested.

One player he would no doubt wish to bring back to Old Trafford is one-time hero Cristiano Ronaldo. And yet Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has thrown yet another hefty bucket of cold water on that suggestion.

You can be absolutely certain that Cristiano will retire at Real Madrid,” he said.

But you can also be absolutely certain that there will be plenty more rumours about the Portuguese’s future before the transfer window slams shut once more.
