All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from the Etihad...
Reports claim Manchester City are close to signing a player dubbed the ‘new Patrick Vieira’, with the ‘old’ Vieira believed to have swayed his decision.
Feyenoord midfielder Rodney Kongolo is said to be travelling to England this week to discuss a deal that could cost the Blues £500,000.
The fact that the player is just 15 suggests that is a hefty outlay. And yet if he really does become as good as his French hero, it could be quite a bargain.
After Sevilla claimed City were yet to bid for Alvaro Negredo – despite rumours of an imminent £20million move – the latest striker to be linked (again) with a switch to the Etihad is Fiorentina’s Stevan Jovetic.
The long-time Arsenal target was said to be on City’s radar last month. And that link is back in the headlines, with claims that Manuel Pellegrini’s side are in the box-seat for the 23-year-old.
With a release-clause of £27million, City certainly have the money – and the space following Carlos Tevez’s departure. But it remains to be seen how firm their rumoured interest is.
One player seemingly not on his way to City is Real Madrid defender Pepe.
That isn’t the first time those words have been written, with Florentino Perez dismissing rumours of his departure earlier this summer.
But now new Real manager Carlo Ancelotti has reportedly refused to sanction any move for the 30-year-old; something that will no doubt prompt Matija Nastasic to breathe a huge sigh of relief.
Gareth Barry’s future remains in the headlines, but after yesterday’s stories linking him with a new deal and eventual move to the MLS, today the Arsenal rumours have returned.
Reports suggest Barry is in talks with the Gunners over a possible £4million move. The England international is set to decide his future next week.
And finally, City’s squad for their pre-season tour to South Africa has been announced.
The 29-strong group includes Joe Hart, Vincent Kompany, Sergio Aguero and new arrival Fernandinho.
The club’s other new signing Jesus Navas will join his new teammates for the Hong Kong leg of the tour, along with David Silva.
Both players have been granted an extended break due to their participation in the Confederations Cup.
Along with the more familiar names, Pellegrini will also have the chance to see many of the club’s EDS side, including Emyr Huws and Eirik Johansen.
